enjoying silence

My parents recently had the boys overnight. While I wish I could say that we took advantage of the opportunity and called friends or had an amazing date night, we just stayed home and read and watched TV.

The next morning, Alain made cappuccinos and we had breakfast in bed. We chatted, read some more. I took a long shower and even filed my nails. Alain went for a run.

In other words, we did "us" as we were before we had children. Instead of going crazy, we enjoyed a little peace and quiet. Simple, but oh so enjoyable. I sometimes say I get a rest by going to work. I work hard when I'm in the office, but I also enjoy time to myself in my office when I can just think and concentrate. That silence gives me a chance to breathe, rejuvenate, and get my head on straight.

Is there anything you miss from the time when you didn't have little ones yet?

  2. I don't have little ones just yet but have heard this from several of my friends who do. I can understand. I think it's important to have time for yourself every now and then--even if only for a few hours to escape with a good book, get your nails done, catch up with a friend for a cup of coffee, whatever. Your day in with your hubby sounds wonderful to me :)

Stopping in from the Lady Bloggers Tea Party (I'm always late for these, sorry!). Cute blog!

  3. My husband and I share a moment every morning. We are lucky to have children who wake up later than we do! Usually it's just a chat over coffee or we just sit and watch the news for a few minutes, but it brings a little normalcy to our otherwise crazy day.

  7. Yes, I miss sleeping in on weekends and getting a lazy start to the day and not feeling guilty about it. I would LOVE to have the grandparents take the kids overnight...because I think we would do exactly what you guys did. Sounds lovely :)

  8. Wow, it's honestly been forever since I actually filed my nails! Boy do we need that head space just to recover from our precious ones.

Thanks for your comment on my SITS day, I've visited you before too and glad to be back :-)
