home is where the heart is

Sometimes we think about getting a bigger home. A home with a bigger back yard and three bedrooms so Luca and Andre don't have to share a room as they get older.

But then I think about my grandparent's summer home, which was the world to me for 3 precious months every year during my childhood. I visited the house as an adult and realized how small and simple it was. But that is unimportant to a child. What made it amazing was the endless supply of toys, the freedom to run around, the pool!

The other day Alain and I inflated a little pool in the backyard (with our own lung power) and warmed it up by carrying pots of warm water from the kitchen. Luca and Andre enjoyed it so much. They might wonder at how small our home is if they visit it years from now. But today, I think they feel it's just right.

  1. Very true. A big house etc isn't what matters.

  2. This is so true. As we grow older we also focus on less important things like cars, jobs and houses, but when it comes down to it, it's the people around us and the experiences we have with them that trully matter. Lovely post.

  3. I so loved what you said on my blog today. Very insightful words on your part. I think you were right about what I got from my mother.
For some stupid reason I sometimes feel like I shouldn't have gone with him and it was my fault.

  4. I feel this way the most when I go visit another country and see people living well with so much less. We are lucky to have so much yet always want more.
