A gathering with family in our yard.
Back in May, our nanny asked if she could go on vacation for a week or so sometime in August. She surely deserves it so we agreed and then decided that, since we were taking a trip in September, we would just stay in town and have a "staycation." After all, we live in a top tourist destination with theme parks, beaches and all kinds of fun things to do. Rather than wait for the weekend, we could just enjoy our city during the workweek and avoid the crowds.
What we did not count on was that we are still at our house and thus responsible for cleaning, cooking, laundry, grocery shopping, taking out the garbage. And since we are in town we can drop by the office and check email every day. And since we are in the house we can tackle the home improvements we've been making such slow progress on.
Our staycation consists of juggling house work, home improvement, childcare and work. We are unbelievably tired. What I do like about it is the flexibility. We don't really have a schedule to stick to and that makes sneaking in an hour at the gym, frozen yoghurt runs and time with family was easier.
This week is not turning out like I expected, but I think I will enjoy it.
I know what you mean...it is nice to be in the comforts of your home and just enjoy BUT all that other stuff (chores) are still there too. Still...hope you all are enjoying your Staycation!
ReplyDeleteFunny. I'm on a staycation of sorts right now, too and having the same experience.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. I hope you enjoy it, though.
